WLB Welcomes New Advertiser Des Moines WA Web Design

We welcome new advertiser Terry Thomas and Des Moines WA Web Design to the Waterland Blog. Terry’s just what every small business or organization in Des Moines and surrounding areas needs these days — he’s a web site designer.
“Compared to other marketing methods so much more information can be presented online that no business can afford to not have an Internet presence now. I’m surprised at how many Des Moines businesses still do not have even a basic website. I’d like to be the one to show them how to use the Internet to their advantage,” explained Terry
Terry didn’t just happen into this line of work. He began a web design and Internet marketing career in 1995 after a 22 year career in the U.S. Navy. He built response websites for major magazine publishers while employed at a Seattle marketing company. So he brings some big league experience at little league prices to local businesses and organizations. According to his website, here’s what Terry can do for your business:
  • Website design for business, organizations and clubs.
  • Complete website design and setup services from start to finish.
  • Reasonable rates and timely delivery.
  • Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
  • Existing website redesigns (makeovers).
  • Websites designed from your specifications or to mine.
  • List management, maintenance, repair and reformatting services.
  • Internet and PC tutoring.
Terry and his wife Dona and their family moved directly to Des Moines after retiring from the Navy. There was no question that they’d settle in Des Moines as Dona was raised here and now is a para-educator at Des Moines Elementary which she attended as a child. Terry told WLB that as a young woman she apparently didn’t have enough to do and received no less than three degrees from Highline College.

Trott's Rokhaus seeks to help businesses with online promotion

A passion for print and website design led young entrepreneur Philip Trott to start up his own business.

Mr. Trott fulfilled a dream of running his own company called Rokhaus Creative Web Studios, which he launched in June and operates out of his home in Pembroke.

His focus is to help small- and medium-size businesses to promote themselves in print and on the Internet and take advantage of the many opportunities available on the world wide web by branching out into social media and networking.

"It is something I have wanted to do for years," he said.

"Being a graphic designer I think a lot of us have that itch to do our own thing."

Having graduated from the University of Miami in Florida in December 2001, the following month Mr. Trott took up a job that had been held for him since the previous summer at AAC Saatchi & Saatchi where he flourished under the tutelage of Rhona Emmerson in a talented team of designers from across the world.

In September 2006, he decided to try his hand working at a smaller operation and he joined emedia Bermuda Ltd. before branching out on his own a couple of months ago with the help of the Bermuda Small Business Development Corporation, which helped him come up with a business plan and exposed him to a host of invaluable resources.

"I just fell into doing Web design Company Chennai  and it turned out to be something that I felt I was good at and I have gained a pretty extensive experience of on the Island," he said.

"I am just really thankful that I had the experiences that I have had so far and I want to build up my own company so I can give someone else the same opportunities that I have enjoyed."

His passion for the work has seen him take a keen interest in ways that people boost their profile themselves online ever since social media burst onto the scene, and he believes there is a lot of potential for growth in Bermuda.

Deciding to name his business Rokhaus after Bermuda's nickname of 'The Rock' and the Bauhaus or the 'House of Building' - a German crafts and fine arts school - Mr. Trott admitted that the timing was great for launching a new venture in the midst of a recession and at the start of the World Cup when a lot of people were glued to the TV screen.

"It wasn't really a concern at first," he said. "Just the opportunity to work my own hours and to my own schedule was really appealing to me," he said.

"I was keen to get involved in community service and implement my own ideas of graphic and web design.

"It seemed to be the right time to start up and it just happened to be at the start of the World Cup, so things were a little bit slow to begin with, but they have picked up and I am really optimistic about the future."

Rokhaus offers a range of services from print design, including print and online branding, flyers, posters, stationary, business cards, magazine/newspapers advertisements, magazine/newsletter layouts and annual reports, to web design and advertising, social network marketing management (integration of Facebook, Twitter and YouTube pages onto a company's main website), website management and consultation, video production of the web and event management.

"We do anything that a medium to small size business would need as far as the web is concerned," said Mr. Trott.

Mr. Trott said that one of the biggest challenges was working from home and being disciplined about managing his own time effectively, with an impressive assortment of gadgets at his disposal such as a Mac Pro Tone and Mac Book laptop, Adobe Suite and full video and audio production service.

But he believes that knowing how to use it all to the best effect is what sets him apart from the rest, allied to his agency level insight and low overheads, as well as a dedicated support team and contacts in the field - the benefits of which are passed on to his clients.

"My main goal is to learn from and work with my clients to provide them with a product that they are happy with and I am happy with," he said.

"I just think there is a lot of opportunity on the web - it is a place where you can promote yourself so easily and at such a low cost."

Web Design Company Kellen Interactive Provides 'Perso-Nav-ity' to Client Websites with Personalized Content and Navigation

In today's constantly evolving online landscape, it takes more than just an attractive website design to engage new and existing customers. With time-pressed Web users looking to quickly connect with the information they want, personalized content is one of the more effective ways to sell a product or service or communicate a message online.
While personalized content has long been a mainstay for mega consumer sites such as Amazon.com, Yahoo and Facebook, today's small and medium business websites can now offer the feature – providing a more relevant and effective user experience for their clients and customers – through Kellen Interactive's Perso-Nav-ity™. Using "Perso-Nav-ity," relevant content is generated in response to the user's specified interests. This new website architecture allows visitors to make their own choices at the homepage, identifying what type of information they want, without wading through dozens of generic pages or entering a password.
Kellen chose its own website (kelleninteractive.com) to demonstrate the new feature. "Instead of forcing site users to dig for the information they want, why not deliver it directly to their front door?" said Josh Linard, Kellen Interactive Business Development Manager. "We're constantly striving to achieve the highest level in technology and value-added service for clients. This website content strategy blends in nicely with the web design to demonstrate that mission."
For example, were you looking into how a blog might complement your company's consumer-focused marketing campaign? Or how search engine marketing or a logo redesign could boost an association's image? Simply click on the "Customize Your Tour" box prominently featured on the homepage for a demonstration of the personalized experience.

Web widens to become ultimate experience

I’M NOT sure whether Tim Berners-Lee could have imagined just how vast the internet would become when he first came up with the concept for a worldwide web 20 years ago.
The original idea was simple – to create a pool of human knowledge allowing people around the world to share their ideas on common projects.
These days the internet is much more than that. Of course it’s still that pool of human knowledge, but it’s also a place to play, to entertain and be entertained, to engage and interact, to explore, to learn, even to shop and share stories.
It’s estimated there are now over 150 million websites worldwide competing for our attention. For some this will be music to their ears. For others it may seem like a nightmare, but as a nation we’re spending more and more time online, and we’re demanding much more from the sites we visit.

For content providers this means it’s no longer enough to simply provide content and expect users to be happy with that alone. We’re increasingly expected to provide added value in the form of richer media content.
User experience (UX) design tries to address the needs of users by ensuring they not only find what they are looking for, but enjoy the online experience in the process.
This means an entirely different approach to the way we have traditionally handled designing websites. When I first started working in web design in the late 90s, most organisations offered little more than an online version of a corporate brochure, often reusing the existing content. More recently, “search” has become an influencer in the design process, many organisations developing sites to appeal to search engines rather than users.
User experience (UX) design, however, is all about seeing things in a slightly different way, looking from the user’s point of view, it’s as much a mindset as a design principle.
This UX approach often includes researching user behaviour, identifying and profiling different consumer groups, creating personas and modelling possible journeys that users may make across the site, so they have the best experience.
Whichever approach you take to web design, if you can make it easier for your customers to find what they want and send them away with a smile then they are likely to come back again and again.

When a Website Just Isn’t Enough Online Marketing a Better Option for the Manufacturing Industry

We are now far enough from the dot com explosion of the early 90’s that most businesses have invested the time and money into developing a company website. Despite this fact, many people mistakenly hold the belief that designing a website is the end of a process. The true realization is that a company website will never reach its full potential to drive sales and acquire new customers without the help of a strategic online marketing campaign.
Without an online marketing strategy, there is the distinct possibility that your website could sit idle, seeing few visitors and providing no benefit to your brand or your bottom line. There are three ways that users can be directed to your website:

* Direct Traffic - Typing in the URL of your website into a browser.
* Referral Traffic - Clicking a link from a referring website.
* Search Engine Traffic - Clicking a link from the results of a search engine query.

The goal of online marketing is to increase all 3 types of traffic and is best done so by utilizing two tactics, search engine optimization and search engine marketing.

Search engine optimization describes the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines via the organic search results. The ultimate goal of search engine optimization is for your website to show as the #1 result for specific keywords of interests. Online marketers achieve this goal by perfecting 3 techniques:

* The editing of a web page’s content (words and HTML Code) to increase its relevance for specific keywords.
* The elimination of barriers to the indexing activities of search engines.
* Increasing the number of referring web pages that link to your company’s site.

Making the Case for SEO

SEO is the backbone of any good online marketing strategy for a number of reasons. Your typical American may watch 2 hours of TV a day, listen to 1 hour of radio, and read 2 magazines per month. That isn’t a lot of time for advertisers to make an impression. In the age of modern technology, where nearly everyone is in possession of a smart phone, your typical American has access to the Internet nearly 24 hours a day and virtually from anywhere (with the exception of maybe elevators and basements). This affords businesses who utilize online marketers the unique opportunity to interact with their customers at all times throughout the buying process.

Another benefit of search engine optimization chennai is its longevity. A website that is properly optimized will continue to perform long after SEO efforts have stopped. It is literally the gift that keeps on giving, directing highly relevant, and highly targeted traffic to your website on a continual basis. Businesses in extremely competitive industries may suffer slightly, but dollar for dollar, it is the most efficient use of a business’ marketing budget.

If you aren’t drinking the Kool-Aid just yet, have a look at some search engine stats. In December of 2009, people across the world performed 131 billion search queries. That equates to nearly 1.5 trillion searches a year worldwide. With a growth rate of 46% in 2009, we can expect 2010 to result in an estimated 2.2 trillion searches.
Numbers this large can be hard to wrap your brain around. Let’s try and put things in a bit more perspective. The latest estimates show that there are approximately 1.97 billion people in the world that have access to the Internet. Factoring this population in with the estimated number of annual searches, means that on average, an individual with Internet access performs 3 searches per day. While this number may not seem all that astounding, see if you can name another service that gets utilized 3 times a day, every day. The benefits of ranking #1 for top keywords related to your business are clearly evident.

The other half of the equation to a successful online marketing campaign is a strategic search engine marketing plan. Search engine marketing is also known as Pay-Per-Click (PPC) advertising or Paid Search advertising. Paid search results typically show up at the top, bottom, and right side of the search results and among the websites included in each search engine’s respective content network. PPC differs from search engine optimization in that advertisers are able to increase the visibility of their website in the paid search results by adjusting the amount they are willing to spend per click that brings one visitor to their website.

The preliminary stage of a search engine marketing campaign is to compile a list of keyword phrases that are relevant to your business. Some examples of keyword phrases relevant to the manufacturing industry may be “pallet racking equipment” or “industrial hopper”. After gathering a large list of keywords, it is then up to advertisers to decide on the financial aspects of their campaign – ie. What their daily budget will be and how much they are willing to bid for each keyword in their list. Once your daily spend is reached, your advertisements will stop displaying, ensuring that you don’t exceed your marketing budget.

Making the Case for SEM

SEM is the cash cow of the search engines, resulting in ad revenues of $13.5 billion in 2008. Paid search is popular because of the unique opportunities it offers advertisers. No other service can offer advertisers the ability to reach more of the population. Google’s PPC service, appropriately named Google AdWords, is available in 38 different languages and over 250 countries.

Another benefit of SEM is the customization. The simple PPC interfaces developed by the search engines allow advertisers to target their ads geographically (as specific as individual zip codes), topically (on websites relevant to your business), and hourly (tailored to the peak hours of your business). This results in extreme targeting, with the PPC networks only showing ads to potential customers when they're actively searching for what businesses like yours have to offer. There are also several options as to how the ads are displayed. Advertisers can create text ads and banner ads in a variety of shapes and sizes.

Lastly, the paid search networks allow for the unique ability to track results and improve your Return on Investment. Using online tracking tools, advertisers can glance over the performance of their campaigns and make educated decisions as to how to maximize their investment. This aspect is completely impossible to do when using traditional marketing channels. You could possibly infer results from T.V ratings of the program during which your commercial ran, or by the magazine’s circulation that your ad was printed in, but these are nothing more than estimates. Paid search allows you to see, to the cent, how much revenue your PPC campaign has made you.

Spelling out all the benefits makes this decision fairly cut and dry. It costs nothing to develop PPC ads and there’s no minimum spend. You pay only when consumers click on your ad to go to your site. And you can adjust, pause, or resume your ad at any time. This makes PPC a grea
